Plants and Trees (614)

Chapter 26

Plants and Trees

24.a. One must not gather fruits, leaves or branches which have fallen from a tree, even if they fell before Shabbath or Yom Tov began, since this is forbidden under the same heading as making sheaves.

24.b. If fruit has dropped in a place other than that in which it grew, for instance, if it has been dropped in a courtyard, then,

1) where it is scattered, one may pick up a little at a time, for immediate consumption, but should not collect it all together at once, as one would do on another day of the week; however,

2) if the fruit did not scatter, but fell together on one spot, it may all be collected at the same time.

24.c. If the fruit became mingled with sand or fallen leaves, one should pick up only one fruit at a time and eat it right away. (See also Chapter 3, paragraph 21.)
