Chapter 18

Specific Laws Relating to the Transfer of Objects from One Place to Another on Shabbath, Where There Is No Eiruv

Specific laws relating to the transfer of objects from one place to another on Yom Tov are dealt with in Chapter 19.

ARTICLES WHICH ARE WORN

38.a. Although the obligation to wear tzitzith does not apply at night, there is nothing wrong with going out on Friday night wearing one’s arba kanfoth, its tzitzith being regarded as a decorative accessory.

38.b. The same applies to going out wearing a tallith, for instance in the evening at the commencement of Yom Kippur.

39.a. It is proper to examine one’s tzitzith for defects before putting on one’s tallith or arba kanfoth on Shabbath, if one has in mind to go out wearing it in a place where there is no eiruv.

39.b. One should take care

1) not to untie any threads which have become tangled together in a double knot, and

2) not to tighten any loosened knots in the tzitzith. (See Chapter 15, paragraph 50.)
