Hilchos Purim – 20 / Mishloach Manos (a)

1. Every individual – whether man or woman – is obligated to send (“mishloach”) two portions (“manos”) of food or beverage to his or her fellow. One does not fulfill the obligation of mishloach manosby sending other gifts, such as clothing, utensils or the like (Shulchan Aruch and Mishnah Berurah 695).

2. In order to fulfill this mitzvah, it is necessary to send the portions specifically during the day of Purim, not at night (ibid.).
