REMUNERATION FOR SERVICES RENDERED ON SHABBATH OR YOM TOV
59.a. Owing to the prohibition against the receipt of remuneration for work done on Shabbath, it is forbidden to hire a watchman, or any other Jewish employee for that matter, to work just on Shabbath.
59.b. 1) Where one does require work to be performed specifically on Shabbath, one should make it a condition of the employment that some work should also be done before or after Shabbath.
2) Thus, the employee will be able to receive payment for all of his work together, including that not done on Shabbath, as permitted by the rule discussed in paragraph 58 above.
58.c. 1) Such a situation can arise when one employs waiters or helpers to assist at a party to be held on Shabbath.
2) One ought to stipulate that they should commence preparations before Shabbath or should help with the cleaning up after Shabbath.
