Specific laws relating to the transfer of objects from one place to another on Yom Tov are dealt with in Chapter 19.

 

MISCELLANEOUS RULES CONCERNING

THE TRANSFER OF OBJECTS

53.a. A person who goes from reshuth ha-yachid into reshuth ha-rabbim and then remembers that he has a handkerchief or a yarmulke in his pocket

1) should, without stopping, let it drop to the ground in the fashion described in paragraph 52 above and he

2) may subsequently pick it up and, while standing still,

a) if it is a handkerchief, wrap it around his neck or otherwise put it on in one of the permitted ways set out in paragraph 47 above, or,

b) if it is a yarmulke, place it on his head.

53.b. He should not put it on while continuing to walk, since this very act is regarded as depositing the object in reshuth ha-rabbim.
