Chapter 20

Categories of Muktzeh

Laws specifically relating to muktzeh on Yom Tov are explained in Chapter 21.

KELI SHE MELACHTO LE-ISSUR

12.a. We have seen, in paragraph 7 above, that it is forbidden to move a keli she-melachto le-issur which one does not need to use, if one’s intention is merely to save it from being spoiled or lost.

12.b. Nevertheless, one may move a keli she-melachto le-issur if one does so

1) in order to preserve it for a permitted use later on during the same Shabbath, or

2) for some permitted purpose, despite the fact that one’s primary objective is its preservation, and not the achievement of that purpose.
