GOING TO A PLACE IN PREPARATION FOR AFTER SHARBATH

7. “And respect it by not following your usual] ways, by not pursuing your business”- it is forbidden to go to a place on Shabbath when the three following conditions the are all present:

a. One wishes to perform an act there after Shabbath which is prohibited on Shabbath.

b. There are no conceivable means whereby the act could be performed on Shabbath in a permissible manner.

c. It is recognizable from one’s actions that one wishes to perform the prohibited act after Shabbath.

8. Consequently, it is forbidden

a. to go into one’s place of work on Shabbath, with the object of beginning to work immediately upon the termination of Shabbath,

b. to go to a bus stop on Shabbath and wait there, with the object of boarding a bus immediately upon the termination of Shabbath (except in the circumstances mentioned in paragraph 10 below),

c. to go on Shabbath to an apartment one is thinking of buying or renting, and inspect it with the object of seeing whether it is suitable, or what repairs have to be carried out, and

d. to go for a stroll on Shabbath in a market which is normally frequented only by those buying or selling (for instance, a wholesale market), with the object of finding things one will be able to buy after Shabbath.
