Chapter 23

Housekeeping and Use of Domestic Facilities on Shabbath and Yom Tov.

REPAIRS

36.a. One is not allowed to repair a smashed window.

36.b. It is also prohibited to fill the gap with a piece of plywood in order to keep the wind out or to stop people from looking in, since one might leave it there permanently.

36.c. One is permitted to cover the hole with a cloth or a piece of cardboard so long as

1) one does not attach it with nails or thumbtacks (drawing pins) nor stick it down and

2) one intends that it should be there only temporarily.

37.a. One must not write letters or draw patterns in the condensation which has formed on a windowpane.

37.b. One may wipe condensation off a windowpane, provided this does not involve wiping off writing or patterns.
