Housekeeping and Use of Domestic Facilities on Shabbath and Yom Tov.

38. It is forbidden to oil the hinges of a squeaky door
39.a. One is not allowed to drive in or extract a nail or a thumbtack on Shabbath or Yom Tov
39.b. One may likewise not attach or detach a hook which is fixed to the wall by means of suction or an adhesive backing.
39.c. One may hang a picture on a hook which has been fixed in the wall since before Shabbath or Yom Tov. (See, however, Chapter 20, paragraph 22)
40. A problem may arise in connection with the domestic water cisterns commonly installed on the roofs of buildings in Jerusalem and other high-altitude areas in larael.
a. the lid of such a cistern has a handle or fits onto a protruding rim which stands out from the body of the cistern, one may open it.
b. A lid which has no handle and fits flush into the opening in the cistern may not be opened unless it is attached by a hinge.
