Laws of Muktzeh on Yom Tov (505)

Chapter 21

Laws of Muktzeh on Yom Tov

4.a. An article which is used for performing an activity that is forbidden on Shabbath, but permitted on Yom Tov, such as a candle or a paraffin heater, is not muktzeh on Yom Tov.

4.b. It may be moved for any purpose whatsoever, but not for no purpose at all. (See Chapter 20, paragraph 80.)

5.a. The lighting of a “new” fire, including the striking of a match, is prohibited on Yom Tov, as explained in Chapter 13, paragraph 2.

5.b. Nevertheless, it is the practice to permit the moving of matches on Yom Tov, so long as they are fit to be used for lighting a fire from a flame which is already burning.
